Once, a little four year old boy knelt down and pulled up some mud from beside the river where he had been walking.
He then, rolling it between finger tip and thumb began to shape it into a figure.
When the small ball with a primitive face squeezed upon it was finished he placed it on the end of a stick and put it out in the sun to dry.
When the drying was through he looked at his creation and said "You are my God."
He did not say it blasphemously.
He said it in all innocence but it began to have its effect.
He carried it around in his pocket for a week.
It was a good God because it made no edicts or gave any commandments or set up any particular rules of behavior.
It laid down no laws or made any requirements of any sort.
It did nothing and the little boy knew that at his whim he could destroy it.
When his mother found what he had done she destroyed his God. She did so because he had taken some mud and a stick and made a God.
But the little boy had only done what has been done for centuries.
Moses threw down the 10 Commandments and broke them because his people had melted down their gold to make a golden calf.
Jeremiah raved at his people for deserting the one true God to worship Idols.
And Wall Street can become a God...Ego can become a God as we worship at the altar of our 15 minutes of fame...and...
And yes men who make their own God are unmade by them...but men who commit themselves to their maker are remade by Him."
