Angelica Archangelica, commonly called Holy Ghost, or Holy Ghost root in Hoodoo, is a species of plant form formerly known as Umbeliferae family, now called Apiaceae.
It's a tall plant that can grow more than six feet ( 2m ), with leaflets formed of numerous minute leafs, arranged in three main lobes, which the divide on three lesser ones and so on. Allrighty here we are at day 6 of my almost daily blogging (damn you Blogger maintenance issues). I'm back with another review and some news. Although I have only been writing for Binnall's website with my 'Fortean Ramblings' column for just over two months and seriously blogging for the past week, upon the encouragement of my girlfriend I decided to send some of my samples to a UFO magazine in the hopes of possibly getting published. I'm not holding my breath but who knows maybe they will end up liking my stuff and let me occasionally write an article or two for them. Obviously I won't name who the magazine is until I have heard from them which will hopefully be soon.
OK now that the news is over we can get into the review. Earlier today my girlfriend and I went to go, as I call it, lolly gagging all over town. (Check my earlier tweets for photos) But basically we went to the mall and just generally wasted gas that we didn't really have. Towards the middle of the afternoon we decided to go see what movies were playing. When we arrived we were a little surprised to see that the movie "Insidious "was still being shown. We had wanted to see that movie so we picked it, and at matinee prices we only had to slightly go into debt to do so. (Warning the below may contain spoilers)
"Insidious" is a horror/thriller movie by the guys who made "Saw/Paranormal Activity". It is genuinely good movie that has some decent bits of 'jumpyness' which is definitely something that I look for in a scary movie. The movie tells the story of a boy who has slipped into a coma and of the paranormal happenings that are going on around him at the same time. Through the course of the movie it is revealed that the child isn't actually in a coma but has used astral projection and simply lost his way back. Because of this the family experiences ghosts/entities that are attempting to cross over to our realm by possessing the child's body. I won't ruin the ending but suffice it to say the movie is really decent. If you can I suggest going to see it in the theaters, but if not getting in on DVD (or using Netflix because this is 2011 after all) simply turn off the lights and prepared to be scared.
Seeing this movie today reminded me of my childhood fascination with astral projection. Astral projection is the theory that practitioners are able to through some means leave their bodies in spiritual form. Through this they are able to travel to different dimensions and other realms. Ostensibly of course I suppose they could go forward or backwards into time. As a child I had read about this ability and longed to be able to do it. A closely related phenomenon is known as OBE or out of body experience, however most 'psychics' seem to believe that OBE's tend to be involuntary whereas Astral Projection is taken to be a voluntary action. As with most of the Fortean topics that I have discussed and will discuss in the future, this seems to be one that I won't be able to experience firsthand. I do a fair amount of healing magick and, if I do say so myself, I'm pretty good at it. I recently wrote about my latest success in that area, which is turning out to be one of the most effective healings I've ever done. So I know that spiritual methods can work to heal physical ailments, but when those methods are treated as a replacement for conventional medicine you can wind up with a life-threatening situation very quickly. Yesterday an Oregon couple who believed in the power of faith healing was convicted of felony criminal mistreatment for refusing to provide their young daughter with medical care.
Timothy and Rebecca Wyland's daughter Alayna, born in December 2009, developed an abnormal growth of blood vessels that covered her left eye and threatened her vision. Now 1 1/2 years old, she has improved under state-ordered medical care. She remains in state custody but lives with her parents.
The Wylands belong to the Followers of Christ, an Oregon City congregation that relies on faith healing. Rather than taking their daughter to a doctor, they relied on prayer, anointing with oil and laying on of hands.
The couple testified during a juvenile court custody hearing last July that they wouldn't have willingly taken Alayna to a doctor because it would violate their religious beliefs. Jurors heard a recording of that hearing.
This kind of either/or irrationality has to end. If you believe in spiritual healing, that's cool. Use it. But if there's ever a time to apply the strategic sorcery method - that is, making sure you take every possible mundane step "in addition" to doing the spiritual work - healing your children is it. Taking mundane steps doesn't render spiritual methods useless. Rather, doing so means that you're committed to achieving success by improving the odds as much as you can.
