How To Make An Herbal Infusion And An Herbal Decoction Cover
Herbal infusions and decoctions are often called teas, and give a soothing, warm dosage of the herbs medicinal properties to the patient. Often honey is added to the tea for sweetener, but also because honey is well known for its own medicinal properties, especially the soothing of sore throats.

For an infusion, let the herb steep in hot water for 3-5 minutes (general dosage, unless otherwise stated, is 2 Tbsp/cup water). For leaves and flowers, it is recommended to steep for 5-10 minutes. For roots and bark, it is recommended to simmer for 10 minutes, then allow to steep for 5 minutes.

For a decoction, drop the herb into a rolling boil of water for 15-20 minutes (this is a preferred method for dense plant material.

One rule for measurement of herbs for teas that the herbal healer should remember is that, generally speaking, about one part dried herb is equal to about three parts fresh.
